At the end of the day people are interested in pagerank, whether it's to gauge the popularity of a site for advertising or just out of plain curiosity. Seriously if I had to choose between hundreds of possible back links to blogengage or a silly little green picture above my website I would go with the back links like anyone else with half a brain would too.
