Archive for the ‘Google’ Category

It’s been a long time since AllyDirectory.com and SharatJaswal.com have been online. I have been waiting long enough for Google results to show up correctly!

Now, as many of you must have noticed, when you search for particular word and mis-spell it, Google automatically adds a red line just before the search results saying “Did you mean….”. It’s called the spell check. It corrects the mis-spelled word and asks you if you wanted to search for the right word. And so far it works great.

The only problem i face is with some particular n personal search words. For example:

"Ally Directory" Search At Google

"Ally Directory" Search At Google

Google has been kind to give “Ally Directory” some sitelinks. And it’s been months now. Yet when i search for “ally directory”, Google returns the results with a red line in front saying “Did you mean alley directory”. Well no buddy, i did mean to search for Ally Directory.

Similarly with “Sharat Jaswal”. This is equally amazing. I exist on most of the social networks. I have a personal blog that is just my name. But Google search will still return “Did you mean Sharad Jaiswal”

"Sharat Jaswal" Result In Google

"Sharat Jaswal" Result In Google

Argggghhhh! Who is Sharad Jaiswal? Why not when we search for “Sharad Jaiswal”, we get the spell checker saying “Did you mean Sharat Jaswal” ????

Anyways…there is a simple answer to this. Google, being such a vast company and such a huge search engine takes care of billions of sites or even might be trillions. It’s not gonna look specifically at the word “Sharat Jaswal” or something. They have brilliant algorithms and it’s all working great. So how do i improve the results and spell checker?. Simple! Let Google know about it.

When you search for a particular phrase or keyword in Google, go to the bottom of the page. Google asks you if you are Dissatisfied with the results. If Yes, click on that link to help them improve. And they are not just saying it. They mean it too. It’s true, Google does listen to you, No matter what many webmaster’s say about it. Yes, i do wish it was great in three more niche: Soft Corner for Directories; If they could forget the paid links things and continue as it always was and if they can have better algorithms for calculating PageRank. Just a dream. Internet shall be a better place once again.

Heard Matt Cutts about penalization being removed and stuff. << Lies

Heard about Google getting soft hearted for directories. << BIG lies.

Anyways, Pagerank updated for the July’2008 and as it has been in the past half a dozen updates… it sucks again! I am not sure which algorithm are they running. No matter how much useful content or stuff you add to your sites, Google will at least screw you from Pagerank point of view! Thanks Big G. But i again suggest that you pull down this algorithm and pagerank as a whole.

And thanks Matt Cutts for the Joke on penalization expiring… It was indeed a good one. At least i fell for it!

I have just been to Matt Cutts blog.  He says the new pagerank values shall be visible in few days. So that’s a good heads-up from a very trusted source! ;)

Though i have been against pagerank updated since last 3-4 times. I am a little keen on this update! Just for the reason which Matt himself specified. Matt says that Google will be expiring penalities on few websites. Now that should be interesting. I am not sure if by the word “websites” he meant “directories” as well. So keeping my fingers crossed, i hope the update is good for everyone in every niche! Good luck guys!!!

By the way, apart from Google Pagerank update, i have seen some more changes! Google has changed the style of the cache page now! It’s pretty “formal” now. And it looks a little better than what it was before! Now, it seems like Google is off to do some improvements overall. I hope it’s more webmaster friendly this time!

P.S. Latest rumor: Google out to buy Digg.com :D

Foxkeh You heard that right. Now you can change the looks of probably all big sites by just using Firefox.

If you do not know what Firefox is or if you do not have it then first of all i pity you! Secondly, i think i should help you get one. Click on this foxie and download this wonderful browser. >>>>

Anyways, what all you need is a firefox addon named Stylish. Install it, Enable it and then restart your Firefox browser!

Once you have restarted your browser, you need to visit Userstyles.org. You will find stylesheets for many applications and websites. Browse your way through and find stylesheets of all the websites you visit to.

I have redesigned the looks of GMail, Google Images, YouTube, Wikipedia, Firefox About Blank Page, Yahoo! and many others… There is such a long list on userstyles.org, you can really find every major site in there!

Installation Instruction: Just visit the desired website’s style page and click on “Load into Stylish”. That’s it. Once you again visit that site again, all the looks will be changed! :)

I am adding screenshots of some sites which i stylized. Here are few of them:

Clearly, as you can see, i am a lover of dark colored themes. You can find many more themes in userstyles.org. I am not sure, perhaps there maybe other websites providing these stylesheets, will have to find out!

Anyways, there is nothing stopping you now from redesigning your favorite websites like Google, Yahoo, Orkut, Facebook etc! Go Crazy and have fun!

Adsense Celebrity MismatchI have never been much satisfied with Adsense for celebrity sites anyways. Since last 5-6 months Google Adsense has been paying a cent or two for every click i get on my celebrity sites network. Believe me, i have lot of traffic on those sites and i really do get lot of clicks there. An average 100 clicks give me $2.00 only. I mean, this really is insane. Isn’t it? Is that what the advertisers at adwords are really paying for celebrity sites? I feel totally looted here!

Anyways, recently i was browsing my Adsense account and there in those green highlighted pointers it was written that verifying your website via Google Webmaster Tools will help us serve you better. Well, i thought this is it. Much targeted ads, much more money and much better revenue for the celebrity sites. So i readily added and verified all my celebrity websites. So what do you think? Problem solved? Am i earning more now?

Lol  Not really. It’s even worse! Now an average 100 clicks give me $0.50 to $0.75. There you are Google Adsense. You really are brilliant with getting much more targeted ads.

My Dear God. Who in the world pays less than 1 cent per click to any advertiser program in the whole wide world?

I checked the ads running on my sites. Just reading the url and opening them in new windows. Each and every site is Made for Adsense (MFA). And they look worse. With absolutely no content. For God sake even blogspot blogs are being advertised by Adsense! Where is the Google TOS of “good landing page” being applied? I just want to ask, why is Google so dumb with their advertisers? And yet they come out brave and merciless when it comes to paid advertising on other sites which we have, by deindexing and banning and PR ripping things. What is it with you Google? Why don’t you get a life? Why can’t you live your own life and let live others their own?

Fact is, Google won’t let you sell advertising on your sites and blah blah blah, because they want people to use Adsense instead. But hey, they will not let you earn with Adsense either. Because they can’t filter MFA’s from their advertiser program. :(

So there you have it. Google Adsense vs. Celebrity Sites. You clearly know who the winner is! Don’t ruin your life. Get some better publisher advertisement programs on your celebrity sites.
