Archive for the ‘Search Engines’ Category

It’s been a long time since AllyDirectory.com and SharatJaswal.com have been online. I have been waiting long enough for Google results to show up correctly!

Now, as many of you must have noticed, when you search for particular word and mis-spell it, Google automatically adds a red line just before the search results saying “Did you mean….”. It’s called the spell check. It corrects the mis-spelled word and asks you if you wanted to search for the right word. And so far it works great.

The only problem i face is with some particular n personal search words. For example:

"Ally Directory" Search At Google

"Ally Directory" Search At Google

Google has been kind to give “Ally Directory” some sitelinks. And it’s been months now. Yet when i search for “ally directory”, Google returns the results with a red line in front saying “Did you mean alley directory”. Well no buddy, i did mean to search for Ally Directory.

Similarly with “Sharat Jaswal”. This is equally amazing. I exist on most of the social networks. I have a personal blog that is just my name. But Google search will still return “Did you mean Sharad Jaiswal”

Argggghhhh! Who is Sharad Jaiswal? Why not when we search for “Sharad Jaiswal”, we get the spell checker saying “Did you mean Sharat Jaswal” ????

Anyways…there is a simple answer to this. Google, being such a vast company and such a huge search engine takes care of billions of sites or even might be trillions. It’s not gonna look specifically at the word “Sharat Jaswal” or something. They have brilliant algorithms and it’s all working great. So how do i improve the results and spell checker?. Simple! Let Google know about it.

When you search for a particular phrase or keyword in Google, go to the bottom of the page. Google asks you if you are Dissatisfied with the results. If Yes, click on that link to help them improve. And they are not just saying it. They mean it too. It’s true, Google does listen to you, No matter what many webmaster’s say about it. Yes, i do wish it was great in three more niche: Soft Corner for Directories; If they could forget the paid links things and continue as it always was and if they can have better algorithms for calculating PageRank. Just a dream. Internet shall be a better place once again.

I have just been to Matt Cutts blog.  He says the new pagerank values shall be visible in few days. So that’s a good heads-up from a very trusted source! ;)

Though i have been against pagerank updated since last 3-4 times. I am a little keen on this update! Just for the reason which Matt himself specified. Matt says that Google will be expiring penalities on few websites. Now that should be interesting. I am not sure if by the word “websites” he meant “directories” as well. So keeping my fingers crossed, i hope the update is good for everyone in every niche! Good luck guys!!!

By the way, apart from Google Pagerank update, i have seen some more changes! Google has changed the style of the cache page now! It’s pretty “formal” now. And it looks a little better than what it was before! Now, it seems like Google is off to do some improvements overall. I hope it’s more webmaster friendly this time!

P.S. Latest rumor: Google out to buy Digg.com :D

My green hulk friend, Robert a.k.a Rob a.k.a an0n, and i were having a conversation and he told me about this great new search engine kinda thing called “SearchMe.com“. I initially thought that it must be some another directory or something similar. But he specifically asked me to watch the video. So i did! And it’s damn interesting thing. Now that i like it, i think you should too watch the video. So here it is….

This is what i call future of search engines. This is what they should look like. We see what we search for. The video must have explained it all to you but for those who didn’t had time for watching it, well, as and when you start typing in the search bar, the site shows you some relevant categories to your query. When you click on the specific category, instead of the normal web results with an anchor text and small description, you instead see the complete web pages as an images. And the results show up in form of images lined up after one another, just the way songs do in iPod or Apple iTunes. Anyways, you can click the image to go to the web page itself. Or you can move the cursor to the bottom of the image and it will show you the information regarding the concerned site. Pretty cool, isn’t it!!!

Anyways, SearchMe.com is in Beta right now. Just signup for the invitations. If you get your Beta invitation, then enjoy the new era of “Searching The Web”. ;) Else youhave to be satisfied with the following image itself. Good luck and Good day!!!

SearchMe.com!!! Future of “Searching The Web”
