I thought i might confuse you if i wrote the title like “Catfish” or something. You might have mistaken it for that ugly looking, cat faced fish. But now that i have already mentioned what “Catfish” really is, let’s move on to it then.
Catfish is a documentary that is directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. The movie “Catfish” opened in USA on 19th September 2010. I am not sure at this moment but it doesn’t seem like it will be opening in India. Anyhows, i haven’t seen any Indian theaters playing a documentary movie….ever. So no surprises.
The documentary revolves around three people, i.e. “Megan Faccio”, the director “Ariel Schulman” (referred in the movie as Rel Schulman) and Yaniv Schulman (referred as Nev Schulman). This documentary (also claimed to be the true story), is based on Nev Schulman and the horrors of Social Networking….and Yes! It particularly includes “Facebook”. It is said to be a thriller, but as per the reviews that i have read so far, the thrill remains only till the whole twist in the story is revealed. That is when Nev Schulman actually meets the beautiful Megan Faccio.
Nev Schulman is a young and talented New Yourk based photographer. One day, Abby, an 8 year old girl from rural Michigan, contacts him on MySpace, seeking permission to paint one of his photographs. Obviously, Nev permitted her to do so. Few days later, Nev receives that remarkable piece of art from Abby. He decides to meet up the whole Abby’s family (via internet of course). However the situation gets more interesting when Nev comes to know about Abby’s beautiful older sister, Megan Faccio. Megan is a musician and a model and she really is very beautiful. Nev and Megan develops a cyber romance kind of thing and soon he decides to go and visit this beautiful gal. The following part of the movies i where all the thrill, excitement, shocking revelations and drama commences. I am unaware of the story that follows and it i really want to see this documentary.
According to IMDB, here is the storyline of Catfish:
“In late 2007, filmmakers Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost sensed a story unfolding as they began to film the life of Ariel’s brother, Nev. They had no idea that their project would lead to the most exhilarating and unsettling months of their lives. A reality thriller that is a shocking product of our times, Catfish is a riveting story of love, deception and grace within a labyrinth of online intrigue.”
Here is a trailer of the movie in HD
I really like the movie’s tagline : “How well do you know your facebook friends”. There is another punch line that says “Not Based on true story, Not inspired by True events…..Just True”. This movie is completely a product of our times, wherein the actual face-to-face personal contact is often replaced with social networking and messaging & texting. The movie is believed to be a remarkable and a powerful story. It’s already doing great in USA. I hope i can catch a DVD soon. 🙂
