Hey there! I wanted to share with you my recent experience with the Canon IXY 25 IS, also known as the Canon Powershot SD770 IS. I actually bought this little gem from a Canon dealer in Hong Kong and let me tell you, it’s a powerful camera despite its small size!
Canon IXY 25 IS Review
Let’s dive into some of its features. The “IS” in its name stands for Image Stabilization, and it has a 10-megapixel camera that supports 3x optical zoom. It boasts a slim and stylish design, with a small 2.5-inch LCD display. It’s an ultra-compact digital camera, which is pretty cool if you ask me!
Today, I checked out its resolution and it’s pretty impressive. The maximum resolution is 3648×2736 and the minimum is the usual 640×480. What’s even more amazing is how fast it boots up. I pressed the on/off button and it was ready to go within a second. That’s pretty neat! Another great feature of Canon IXY 25 IS is the Face Detection Technology, which helps focus on the faces of people when you’re taking group pictures. And, it also has a red-eye correction, so no more red-eyed vampires in your photos!
I also really appreciate the motion detection sensor, which works well for taking pictures of fast-moving objects like cars. And, the DIGIC III Processor in Canon IXY 25 IS is a game-changer. It provides lightning-fast responses, superb image quality, and advanced noise reduction. I don’t recall how much noise it used to make, but I don’t hear any on this camera! Oh, and it shoots movies as well, although the quality isn’t exceptional. But hey, it’s still pretty good. It has high sensitivity (ISO 1600) and the battery needs charging after 300+ shots.
One more thing – the Canon IXY 25 IS camera comes with a 32MB card, which isn’t very useful. I recommend getting an 8GB card, like the Kingston 8GB SDHC Class 4 memory card. With that, you won’t have to worry about running out of space for your photos.
Overall, if you’re looking for a compact and powerful digital camera, the Canon IXY Digital 25 IS is definitely worth considering. I hope my review was helpful!
Canon IXY 25 IS Alternatives
I would like to mention that this camera is no longer in production. But since you folks like my review so much I would like to suggest a couple of cameras that are far more advanced, in this present age.
- Sony Alpha ZV-E10: This powerhouse camera from Sony has all the rich features that one requires from a camera. It is a quintessential product, especially if you are looking for vlogging capabilities from a camera. It is not as cheap as the Canon IXY 25 IS, but you get so much more for your money. You can read my review of the Sony Alpha ZV-E10, for more details.
- Sony RX100 M3: If you want the value for your buck, a small compact camera, then this has to be the one. Sony RX100 M3 is super compact while packing tons of features. This is the camera that I have personally switched to. It’s super light and gives me crispier and more defined photographs than any present smartphone on the market. You can check out this product on Amazon. I can vouch for its performance.

Dear Mr. Sharat,
I am satish. I had just purchased CANON IXY DIGITAL 25 IS. Everything is fine but i can’t able to download the photos to my PC. Please tell the procedure to download the photos to my PC. I had purchased this camera with 4GB memory card. Please help me on this issue.
Satish
Along with the cam, you have two cables and a CD. Use the white cable and connect the camera to PC through that cable (Via USB). After that either the PC self detects it as a Canon drive. If not then install the three softwares on CD.
Now, when you connect the camera to PC….you need to put your camera on the picture view mode.. switch the the top right movable button that is. Other modes are video shooting and image shooting mode. So keeping on picture view mode, go to My Computer….click on the Canon drive, and there in you will see all the images and videos. Right click and Save in My Pictures on any folder you want!
Hi Sharat,
Thank u very much for your instructions. Now, i can download my pictures. I purchased this camera from Seoul so the book is in Japanese language. I am presently in Korea for some office work and i will be back to India after some days.
Once again thank you. If u have any thing to share then feel free.
Warm regards,
Satish
Am Glad i could be of some help to you Satish! π Good luck with your business!
Hi
i got ixy for few years and i lost the CD,without the SW,i cant use vdoclips in PC.
I used to transform the vdoclips first b4 i can use it in AE or vegas.
Cant find info on net too.
Can you provide the soft?
thnx
L
Lovenara, i am sure you do not need the software for transferring the video clips in PC.
When you connect the camera via USB to your PC, it detects it as Canon IXY….click on it and it will show the images and videos. Simply, right click on them, and save them in My Pictures or any folder it prompts you too. And you will get a copy of that video on the target folder.
If you want to convert those videos, use softwares like Prism Video Converter. That’s what i use! It’s simple and very lite software and does the work i need! Besides, it’s free. Even though i have the Canon’s cd with me, i don’t think i make a use of it!
Note: You cannot convert a video or edit an image if the file in question is in Canon’s drive. You have to save it to other folder on your PC to make it work.
If you still want softwares, then download em. Try Google for:
ZoomBrowser EX6.1
PhotoStitch 3.1
Camera TWAIN Driver 6.9
EOS Utility 1.1a
Alternatively you can order a Canon’s Digital Camera Solution CD Version 33.0!
You should be fine either ways!
hi! i really don’t know why my pc can’t detect the pictures from my canon IXY DIGITAL L4..IT DOESN’T SHOW ANY CHOICES what program to launch the action..and when i try to get pictures,it says “it cannot detect the camera” when in fact there’s the canon ixy folder, but nothing appears under it..what seems to be the problem? could it be possible that it’s the usb cable connector?(because i’m using a universal usb connector) thanks..
Quel, I hope you are keeping the camera on play mode when you connect to your PC via USB. Right now i am looking at a Canon IXY Digital L4. I see the three modes right on top at back of the camera. First one is play, second is vedio and third is image capture. Keep it on play mode and see if detects the pics then. If not, try installing EOS Utility software from the CD that came along with the camera. EOS Utitlity is a software for downloading images to your PC and some other stuff! You should do fine that way!
Hi Sharat, I just stumbled across this post whilst frantically googling because I just bought this camera but the instructions are all in Japanese and I couldn’t work out why my computer wasn’t recognising the camera. Putting it into play mode is so simple but so random, so thanks for pointing it out, you’ve saved me a lot of heartache and hassle!
I am glad i could be of some help Holly. Ever feel like posting great images that you photographed, let me know. It will be a pleasure to put them up on my blog! π
Hi Sharat, I bought my canon ixy in Japane and now all instructions are in japanese. Can you please let me know wher I can dowload instructions in english or italian??
Many thanks in advance.

Hello Gordana
I would recommend that you visit the official site for the guide and manuals.
Official Site Link >> Canon SD770 IS
SD770 is an alias for Canon IXY 25IS. So the manual would be the same.
When you visit this page, click on Drivers and Downloads tab, in there you will find the User Manual which is a 12.03 pdf file. π
You are a lifesaver. been trawling the net trying to find an english manual.
Thank you soooooooo much.
BR
I recently bought IXY 25 is. Since the manual is in Japanese, I was wondering if I could get a hold of an English manual. I am living in Iran and access to one is hard.
Do you think you could help me? My address is: R. Mortezania/ Felestine Ave. / Felestine 4/ PELAAK 2/ Mashhad, Iran
thanks.
Hi Reza. I am sorry but i am not sure why you sent your address. I can help you definitely but i don’t think i have any intentions of mailing you a manual or a copy. I would have if i owned a Canon’s exclusive franchisee or had i been a dealer.
Anyways, go through this site http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=145&modelid=16722 , click on Drivers and Downloads tab, and download a file called PSSD770IS_IXUS85IS_CUG_EN.pdf.
Canon IXY 25IS is also known as SD770. So that’s the manual for you!
Thanks
I just bought a Canon Ixy Digital 25 IS. I have no problems with it. It works great. I was wondering if I can use it as a webcam since the laptop I’m using doesn’t have one. Can you please help me on this? If I can use the Canon Ixy Digital 25 IS as a webcam to my Compaq laptop, how do I go about it?
Kiray, i tried searching and implementing some ideas to make the digital camera act as a webcam. But none was really successful. So am sorry but i don’t think there is any software yet, to make it work as webcam.
You can try yourself by searching in Google for something like “digital camera as webcam”. I ended up installing around 7 trial version softwares!
Thanks very much for your time & effort. I really appreciate it even if I didn’t get the results I wanted.
Hi Sharat, was wondering if you can help me. Have been using the IXY Digital 25 IS and downloading photos using the software (CD) that comes with it (Canon Zoombrowser). However, I recently changed laptops and the Canon software is not installed in it (I’ve lost that CD months ago). Do you know where I can download that software so I can upload my photos again? Or do you have another form of software that you would recommend for organising photos, etc? Thanks!
Hi Anna. Honestly, I have never searched or experimented with any software for my digital camera. So am sorry but at this moment i cannot recommend any other software.
As for Canon Zoombrowser, you can download the latest version from canon site itself. However i guess you need to get an old version site from somewhere first. Have you tried this link: http://www.jakehuggard.com/
Hello Sharat,
Can you please, tell me the price of this camera ?
Anu, the camera cost me somewhere around 15K INR. However that included the camera case and the 8GB memory card.
Also, the camera was bought from Hong Kong and almost an year back. So i cannot tell you the current price of Canon IXY Digital 25 IS.
Hi Sharat. Thanks for all the information. I just bought this cam from Singapore, it cost me nearly 10 k INR.
Congrats Saurabh. That’s a good buy. I am pleased that you found the information in here as helpful.
However you should have mentioned what all you got in the package. Camera and user manual plus software is one part. Did you get a case and memory card or probably a tripod in that amount?
Hi there Sharat,
I bought a ixy25is a year ago when I was in Tokyo and recently have found a problem with it that’s frustrating. All I have is a blank black screen with icons on it! Even when I take a picture I get nothing! I’ve tried pressing the display button and also putting it back to it’s default settings and nothing helps. Can you suggest any thing that will help.
Cheers
Karl
Hello Karl! I really do wish i could help you out with this matter. But honestly this looks like a technical fault and i would suggest that you take it to a nearby authorized service center.
I have the same camera π
I’m getting nice pics in Daylight π
I’m not able to switch to ISO 100.
On my screen there’s always ISO Auto π
It was just to take some night shots !
I had bought Canon IXY Digital Camera 25 IS from tokyo one n a half yrs before. Now i have misplaced my charger. I would like to know if the charger for this model is available in India and where. Please reply to my mail ASAP.
Thank you
Sangeetha, usually most of the Canon cameras come with the same charger. Perhaps you would like to visit their official Indian website >> http://www.canon.co.in/section/contactus/servicenetwork.jsp
Just select your city and try reaching the retailer/distributor/service centre in your city and ask them about the availability. Pretty sure you can get it from any Canon outlet.
Hey there! I’m trying to figure out how to make a video that lasts longer then 3 minutes. I really cant figure it out…
