In 2019, Martin Scorsese directed “The Irishman,” a movie with an impressive cast that immediately caught my attention. The lead roles are played by Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Anna Paquin, Harvey Keitel, and many others.

At its core, “The Irishman” tells the story of Frank Sheeran (played by Robert De Niro), a truck driver turned hitman who works for Jimmy Hoffa (played by Al Pacino), a businessman connected to organized crime. The movie chronicles Sheeran’s mob career, a somber tale of violence, betrayal, and loss set against the backdrop of the 1950s to 1970s.

“The Irishman” is another masterpiece by Scorsese, a well-known director who needs no introduction.

Personal Review of “The Irishman”

I had high expectations for the Martin Scorsese-directed movie, “The Irishman,” featuring a legendary cast, including Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, and Joe Pesci, who came out of retirement for this very movie. While the film is not bad, it falls short of my expectations. At a running time of 209 minutes, it can be a test of patience for some viewers. While the direction and cinematography were noteworthy, the storyline moves at a sluggish pace, and the action sequences lack depth. The initial use of CGI to portray younger versions of Pacino and De Niro was not impressive. The performances of the three legendary actors were commendable, especially that of Joe Pesci.

While the movie is worth a one-time watch, it may not live up to the hype surrounding its making. The plot and the movie’s length, coupled with the CGI effects, contributed to my disappointment. While I am a Scorsese fan and admire the work of De Niro and Pacino, I do not consider this movie legendary. Nonetheless, I hope to see a film someday where the two actors can play their true age and enjoy a good time.
