“The Irishman” is a Martin Scorsese directed movie that came out in the year 2019.
A very impressive star cast meant that the movie was a must-watch for me. The leading stars in the movie are Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Anna Paquin, Harvey Keitel, and many more.
The Irishman is basically a guy named Frank Sheeran (played by Robert De Niro), who works for Jimmy Hoffa (played by Al Pacino) who is a businessman with links to organized crime.
It’s a compelling story about Frank Sheeran’s rise from a truck driver to a top hitman. The story reflects his mob career, and a sorrowful tale of violence, bloodshed, betrayal, and loss.
The movie is set in the times of the 1950s to 1970s and is yet another masterpiece by the famous director Martin Scorsese who really needs no introduction.
Personal Review of “The Irishman”
I had a lot of expectations from this movie. The director Martin Scorsese and the legendary star cast of Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, and Joe Pesci, who came out of retirement for this very movie, were compelling enough for any fan to watch this movie.
I will be very honest. I can sum up the movie as long, boring, and disappointing. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad movie at all. I will still recommend that you watch it once if you have an ample amount of time up your sleeves. This movie is 209 painful minutes long. Yup. That’s three and a half hours. I finished the movie in three installments.
Most of the movie is very slow-paced. The action sequences are quick and usually get over before you get a feel for them. The initial part of the movie has young versions of Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. I have to say that the CGI’s to make them look young were not impressive at all. It was horrible, to say the least. It just didn’t work.
The three legendary actors are worth watching. They gave it their best. Especially impressed with Joe Pesci’s role and character portrayal. The direction and the cinematography were at par with any Scorsese’s greats. It was probably just the storyline, the length of the movie, and probably numerous cringe-worthy CGI effects that made it disappointing.
I believe the movie is overhyped much because of the people who are involved in it’s making rather than the movie’s storyline itself. I’m sorry though. I am a big Scorsese fan and I hardly know anyone who does not like Al Pacino or Robert De Niro, but this movie ain’t legendary. Still dreaming of a movie where Robert De Niro and Al Pacino play their true age, as two old guys having a good time. Perhaps, someday.
