Block Promotional SMS In India

How To Block Promotional SMS Like AM, DM, VM That Are Not Blocked By DND

We engaged in a thorough discussion regarding the activation of the Do Not Disturb (DND) service on your mobile number, in India. For reference, here is that article again >> How to Activate DND in India and Block Those Spammy Marketing Calls & SMS. This article aims to provide information on various methods to prevent unsolicited promotional SMS that is not restricted by DND regulations.

It is important to note that certain SMS services are not unsolicited. In fact, these SMS companies have your consent to send you promotional SMS. It’s when you shop at your favorite brands or when you eat at your favorite eateries, the staff will ask for your feedback along with your name, contact number, and email address. This is exactly the moment when you become a part of their marketing system. They store your mobile number in their customer database and thus begin the downpour of offers and promotions on your cell phone via SMS. These SMS usually have a prefix of AM, DM, VM, IM, AD, MD, VK, AP, HP, etc.

Unfortunately, there is no way to get rid of these annoying promotional SMS services in one go. Attempting to address each service individually can be a cumbersome and tedious task. You will need to contact each and every store, via SMS, call, email, or in person.

Luckily, our society consists of some helpful people who carry forward the information gathered for others to avail as well. Thanks to such people. we have the following bit of information that I would like to share with you. The list is in chronological order sorted by the alphabet, for your convenience.

If you are aware of any other brands or services that should be included, please feel free to share them with us in the comments section below. Your contributions are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Promotional SMS From Financial Institutions

It is important to note that messages with prefixes such as AM, DM, etc. from financial institutions such as banks and insurance companies should not be unsubscribed. These SMS’es provide important information such as bank balance, overdue payments, ATM withdrawals, and similar notifications. Therefore, it is recommended that these messages be retained.

Promotional SMS Via Partner Programs

You may receive promotional sms from stores or services that you are not familiar with, such as weight loss programs, property for sale, or various other medical or financial services. It is likely that you did not provide consent for these institutions to contact you, but they obtained your phone number through partner programs.

For instance, when you sign up for offers from a new restaurant, they may share their customer database with partner programs, and your phone number may be disseminated to various stores and services that you are unaware of. These entities then send bulk SMS messages to their entire database. It may be near impossible for you to backtrack as to where they got your number from.

In such cases, it is best to contact them via their website, Twitter, or Facebook page and request the removal of your number from their promotional SMS campaigns. It may be necessary to resort to legal action to have your number removed.

How To Block Marketing Emails

Regarding email marketing, blocking promotional emails is a relatively simple process. At the end of each marketing email, you will find an “UNSUBSCRIBE” link. Clicking on the link and providing your email address, if necessary, will immediately remove your email address from their database. It works like a charm!

  2. How to block the messages comes from BW-BIGBZR, and from HP Gas, Bharat Gas etc where i do not have any gas connection.

  3. Use sms organizer messaging app by Microsoft. It has a separate tab for all those promotional sms. It doesn’t show any notification for theme messages. Only the notification count on your app badge increases. once in a while you can delete all promotional sms at one click.
    P. S. It does have a separate tab for transaction sms which includes your bank transaction messages.

  4. I am writing to individual smaller stores to get rid of this nuisance. Tried the full DND by Vodafone. All the complaints I have registered so far have been responded to as if the data (content of SMS, provided header) does not match with TRAI database . It is shocking and surprising considering I have valid proofs (the text in my inbox). One would assume that in today’s day and age, submission of screenshots should be allowed and validated.
    Really exasperated with this service.

  5. I was looking for this from a long time. Thanks for detailed explanation. Waiting for some solution with all others .

  6. Hi Pabitra. I haven’t heard of this company. Can you elaborate more on it? Like what company it is and what text you are getting from them.

How to stop this type of message

  8. Hey Pabitra. Sorry, I had to delete that link that you shared from the message. That is spam and i feel sorry for you that you got caught into that. I am sorrier that I cannot help you with this one. It is not a brand company sending marketing messages with whom we can make unsubscribe/opt-out requests. This is someone spamming your number with URL’s that should not be opened. Probably install some anti-virus on your phone too.

  9. Hi Aysha.

I believe the opt-out option is available on the member’s account and security page. You would just need to uncheck the boxes where it says communication option. If you don’t see such options, then just write to customercare@ajio.com with the title unsubscribe and provide your phone number therewithin.
